Role Description
Arrivant is in need of a Technical Director/CTO who is looking for a place and community where they can make a real impact. You will work alongside the lead designer and producer, and report to the CEO. Responsibilities include: establishing the company’s technical vision, leading all aspects of the company’s technology development, and being the key individual responsible for pursuing and delivering the product agenda. We are small but mighty so this will be a hands-on position. The ideal applicant will have a minimum 7 years’ experience working in a Technical Director or Senior/Lead Programmer role and will have shipped multiple games across multiple platforms. Extensive understanding of multi-platform game production and social networking is required. You will be working on Arrivant’s tentpole project within an experienced team of people who have a passion for creating games and worlds.
  • Responsible for all technical architecture and process choices
  • Supervise and participate in all projects from staffing, technology/tools choices, risk evaluation, dependencies with other projects to ensure the best quality is achieved
  • Recommend solutions and approve plans and roadmaps
  • Manage the programmers team
  • Be an expert in design, programming, debugging and optimization
  • Write and develop robust, maintainable high/low-level code to extend engine (Unity/Unreal) functionality
  • Implement features across current and next-gen platforms including prototypes and new technologies
  • Maintain and add to existing codebase, including low/mid-level systems to support pipelines and higher-level programmers
  • Collaborate productively, communicating ideas and issues clearly across disciplines
  • Have exceptional analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Architect and participate in implementing all the different game modules and systems
  • Architect and participate in the implementation and maintenance of potential non-game-specific systems used by content creators (extensions to engines, tools, system builds, pipeline improvements)
  • Work closely with department leads to identify and set technical restrictions and ensure the team adheres to them
  • Excellent C/C++/C# and other language skills (7+ years)
  • Experience developing games across a wide range of platforms (smartphone/tablet, console, PC)
  • University degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Advanced knowledge in general game programming as well as in general game development tools, processes, and infrastructure (Perforce, services, tools and editors, system builds,, online, etc.)
  • Management and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of the technical pipeline and all the processes needed to make a game
  • Good communication and teamwork with game developers from all disciplines
  • Excellent initiative, self-motivation, and organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to both drive and follow direction
  • A genuine interest in playing games
  • Previous experience with Unreal Engine/Unity
